The action of people starting to use hot air balloon to fly and explore was done by French Blankard and American Jefflis in 1785.　They drove the hot air balloon and flied over English Channel.

September in 1982, Mr. Fubs from United States accomplished his flight performance in Xian, Luoyang and Beijing cities of China driving his hot air balloon, and at last he presented it to National Sport Administration. This is the first hot air balloon flying in China and it promotes the birth of hot air balloon sport in China.

On Jan.14, 1985, the first hot air balloon of China was designed and produced by Nanjing Hongguang Airborne Equipment Factory. October in the same year the balloon and its design were examined through practice flying in Anyang Aviation School of Henan Province, and it was approved by Chinese Aviation Industry Ministry. From then on the hot air balloon has a flourish development in China.

It is reported there are more than 200 hot air balloons registered in Chinese Aviation Sport Association.
